AI Literacy Lab: Practical AI literacy for social impact

The AI Literacy Lab equips NGO teams with the knowledge and frameworks needed to navigate AI technologies thoughtfully, addressing ethical considerations whilst building practical capabilities that align with their values-driven missions.

Our mission is to empower the NGO sector with comprehensive AI literacy, enabling responsible adoption of the technology whilst addressing ethical considerations and compliance requirements.

We envision a thriving NGO community where organisations leverage AI tools effectively and responsibly, closing the productivity gap with commercial enterprises whilst maintaining their values-driven approach and incorporating AI considerations into their advocacy work.

“The AI Literacy Lab with Tecer Digital was one of the most useful trainings I’ve ever participated in. Bruna was great at presenting clear, accessible information on AI and gently questioning and debunking my misconceptions. The opportunity for guided practice with real life examples was excellent. I left feeling less paranoid, better informed, and really excited about how AI could enhance my work and our organisational efficiency”

Sierra Schraff Thomas, Interim Director, Programmes and Learning, Womankind Worldwide

Our approach to building Responsible AI capacity

We deliver specialised, tailored training designed specifically for the unique needs, constraints, and ethical considerations of the NGO sector. Our methodology combines assessment, personalised learning, and ongoing support to ensure sustainable impact.

Through direct engagement with organisations, we address five interconnected areas that form the foundation of responsible AI adoption:

  • AI & Technology Literacy: Building fundamental understanding of AI capabilities, limitations, and real-world applications relevant to your work.
  • Ethics, Regulation & Compliance: Navigating the complex landscape of responsible AI use, including GDPR considerations and emerging regulatory frameworks.
  • Risk Identification & Mitigation: Developing practical skills to assess and manage AI-related risks specific to the NGO context.
  • Individual Application: Providing hands-on guidance on personal AI tool usage with clear frameworks for appropriate use.
  • Organisational Implementation: Strategic advice on institutional AI adoption, including policy development and governance structures.

How it works

Individual Organisation Workshops

Our workshop process is designed to meet organisations where they are:

  1. Anonymous team survey capturing current knowledge, concerns, hopes, and specific questions about AI
  2. Customised workshop addressing identified needs and challenges specific to your context
  3. Post-session materials, implementation guides, and feedback collection
  4. Check-in after two months to assess behaviour change, tool adoption, and ongoing questions

Community Building

Beyond individual workshops, we’re cultivating a learning community through:

  • Weekly newsletter addressing common questions and emerging developments
  • Shared resource library and best practice repository
  • Feedback mechanisms for continuous programme improvement

Policy & Governance Support

We support organisations in developing robust IT and AI governance frameworks:

  • Development of personalised IT policy
  • Integration of AI considerations into existing technology policies
  • Customised organisational stance documents
  • Implementation guidance with quarterly follow-up support over two years
